Recently, GEL team members Amy and Will enjoyed a fantastic visit to the British Geological Survey in Keyworth! They were fortunate enough to tour their labs and analytical facilities, explore the National Geological Repository (the ‘core store’), and had the chance to see where UD‑1 and UD‑2 cuttings are held as rocks of ‘national importance’. Great conversations were had about future collaboration between GEL and BGS, plus a very important exchange: we brought Cornish Pasties and left with delicious honey from their on‑site beehives.
Amy and Will also joined the Women in Geothermal (WING) event hosted by Marriott Drilling Group. Marriott gave us an overview of geothermal drilling services and the chance to get up close to two of their rigs — an incredible opportunity to understand the challenges and progress in drilling technology. The event also brought together organisations from across the sector, with great networking and insightful discussions on the future of the geothermal.
